Oral Health Surprises: Tooth Decay

Posted .

An effective treatment plan for keeping your smile safe from the risks of dental damage includes making sure that your tooth enamel is well protected. If for any reason your tooth enamel is breached, bacteria can enter a tooth and cause pulp death and eventual tooth loss. To prevent the rise of tooth decay, in which your enamel is slowly worn down, make sure that you have effective oral hygiene treatments and a healthy diet in place to keep your smile safe.

One of the biggest risks to your smile is due to tooth decay. Because tooth decay is so damaging to your smile, it will need to be treated as soon as possible. Due to several health risks of tooth decay arising due to plaque buildup in your mouth, you will need to make sure that you’re cleaning out your mouth on a daily basis. Use nonabrasive cleaning tools such as nonabrasive toothbrush and soft-bristled toothbrushes to clean your mouth twice every day. Furthermore, use threaded floss, as it can adequately clean between each and every tooth. Due to the risk of dental abrasion after eating, non-abrasive cleaning tools should be used at this time, including mouthwash and sugarless chewing gum.

If plaque buildup is allowed to continue damaging your teeth and gums, it can eventually give rise to cavities. If a cavity is left untreated, bacteria can enter the root and cause pulp death. If a tooth’s pulp is not treated properly, tooth death will occur.
